Gallipoli, Death and Destruction!!
After watching the trailer from Gallipoli, i saw many unpleasant things. The number of casualties in Gallipoli was staggering. From death to destruction everywhere. Being a WWI soldier was not a simple task, knowing you are always at risk is not easy. A soldier must also be afraid of what may always happen next. From the trailer of Gallipoli, there are scenes that show why there were a high number of casualties in this war. In the video I saw a cemetery with numerous amounts of crosses that says that the number of deaths was significantly high. Also I saw many soldiers dead or injured. There is also a scene with massive artillery such as guns and cannons as well as barbed wires and fires. In the trailer the terrain also led to big factor in not helping the British out, because it made it difficult for the British to maneuver and provide enough supplies for their troops to survive and work efficiently. Apparent throughout the whole trailer were the machine guns, and that scene were soldiers marched with the guns above there shoulder were they would smile was astonishing. The number of soldiers enlisted to fight during war was huge and that is why the number of casualties was at a high rate. Britain would experience diminished power around the world and power to sustain its own economy. There would be a lack of people able to work productively in any career. Another impact is the affect on economy and trading between countries. The number of casualties in WWI affected many countries around the world. How does a nation recover from this?
Dogfight: A pilots thoughts...
A pilot from World War I must have gone through a lot. They must have had a horrible life, thinking that they would die any second they were in combat. The planes were not made to resist the kind of machinery in war. So pilots would die instantly. Playing the game "Dogfight" I could imagine what was going through a pilots head. It's very difficult to focus on one thing at once, so imagine three or four and so on. A pilot must be thinking about is family as he starts fighting, he must be thinking if he will be able to see them again. He might also be thinking about how he might die, and the chances of him dying. A pilot must be really nervous, if religious, he would be praying to God for his life. The pilots are brave men who take there life's to serve for our country. Most knew that they were most likely to end up dead, but they still continued their path to victory. It was also hard to control this kind of aircraft, pilots would lose control at any moment. A pilot really does have a lot to think about in this last instances.
Virtual Wars vs. Real-Life Wars
War video games like "Call of Duty" play a big role in society. Especially for teenagers today, in our generation. Many kids and teenagers relate to this kind of video games in many ways. These video games try to portray what war is like, but in reality they don't because soldiers cant restart in real life. But the only people that really know the way war is, are the soldiers that have actually fought war. There is a big debate on whether or not games diminish the violence that actually occurs in real war. Violent video games, such as "Call of Duty", should be allowed but to an extent where the game is actually a little more restricted to some things. Its just a game though, and teenagers and kids are enjoying the time that they are spending playing on games like this. Maybe it gets to a time where some children get more aggressive when playing video games. Although it also depends on how long you play these type of games. Obviously, "Call of Duty" only shows a very small example of what truly happens in war. I believe that if a parent is willing to buy a game like "Call of Duty: Black Ops", then that parent should know how the teenagers or children will be affected by it and how much time they will spend playing.
These games known to be rated for mature audiences, are preferred by younger consumers as well. I believe that it is all a parent's obligation to expose their children to appropriate material. In my opinion games such as "Call of Duty" should be allowed, but higher standards should be set for them. It is only entertainment, players don't pay physical or emotional prices. Video game companies should revise this violent games and only allow some parts. I really don't think it brings out a violent side to any kid or teenager, it all depends on how long they play, and if that is there only hobby. I believe that younger kids should absolutely not be allowed to play these violent games. For that reason, manufacturers put a rating on video games like on this one Rated M for mature. I believe that morally this game is not right. It should be revised, what kind of message are people receiving playing this game. Today, kids are accepting more violence into there life's and even though they are at a young age they accept that war is good. They find it acceptable in life to follow fantasy.
I think that video games like this should exist but I think they should be more realistic. They should also have some kind of message to follow. I believe that if we start to see that kids and teenagers begin to get mentally affected by these video games then it should not be able to exist but kids now are just playing to get to higher level and beat everyone else. As we are increasingly living in a society where winner takes all, and there is less compassion an sympathy for anyone else. Only the winner survives in this.
