Recontruction..Should south be granted amnesty????

During Reconstruction there was great debate over whether the South should be granted amnesty. What are your thoughts? Defend your argument.

I think that during the reconstruction the South should have never been granted amnesty because this words just represents a pardon for offenses or crimes. So as saying that back then in the South they were giving a pardon for criminals. Why in the world would the U.S. give pardon to some criminals??? Personally, I think that neither the South or North agreed with granting the amnesty to the South. It obviously brought more conflict and disagreements between both sides. The Reconstruction was just helping the South to be free of slavery but it didn't help out at all and neither did the amnesty. During the Reconstruction it might have been a benefit to the congress and government to grant this amnesties. But I think the government should think about the people when granting this amnesties. After all if the North would have never granted the amnesty there would have never been a war at all. It was wrong to grant that amnesty to the South because the citizens should have a response to what the government is trying to decide on.
