Weekly Article #3

I agree to the blogging assessment because it is a quick way to have my own opinion expressed. The access to everything digitally is amazing. Just typing in the computer keeps me attentive on the topic that I am writing about. It's so much easier to do blogs because in order to do homework in pen and paper, I have to take these supplies out, then write my name, period, date, and class and finally begin writing the assignment. So just preparing the paper takes about five to ten minutes. The blogging assessment gives some flexibility when scheduling assignments for other classes. So I might do my blogs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. To help me be more organized with homework.
This blogs give a another way to be educated and learn many other lessons by using blog posts and websites. It is a very interactive experience because it lets you acknowledge what other people believe in that topic. I also liked that many of the questions were not simple, but challenging and opinionated. There was really no right or wrong answer, it was just to opinion with valuable support. I also like that we are not trying to use textbooks to reference them. But to let our minds wonder in that particular topic.
There is also a way to interact with classmates, and learn how to improve in writing this blogs. By comparing the many points explained, and how different people write to be more structured. This blogs are not a piece of cake, the topics make you think out of the box. They make you plan out what you are going to write.
I also like that we have more than one blog topics to choose from, just in case we are not interested in some we could leave them and pick other that you can write more about. The amount of time to get the blog topics done is such a wonderful idea because it keeps me on task and prepared to turn it in on time. And never have to deal with doing all of them on the last day of the quarter like today!!!!
This blogger system makes everything so much easier. I look forward to keep writing blogs and turning them in on time. It is a unique experience with the potential to expose students to information they have never seen before. I agree with the blogging system.

Favorite!!!!!!!!!

Blogging was such a great idea to express ourselves, and I thank you Mr. Meechin for coming up with this idea. It's great and all the blogs were great and challenging topics. But I think that my favorite blog was the Oregon trail one. Playing it was so much fun, in the game i tried to keep the family alive but it was hard because either the weather or the food were not collaborating with the family and I ended up dying really fast like at the 4th day. Even though it was an old school game it was definitely interesting learning how to stay alive. I believe that this game help me learn even more than the other blog topics because it was visual and learning like this is much easier for me. It was a very realistic life of a person in those times. It was very educational, and I think we should another blog like this.

Learning Differences when Blogging

I liked to blog better than write in pen and paper because its a faster way to express yourself by typing. Also, because if you post something it's all going to be opinionated and every post can be commented. Blogging has the advantage to let me and everyone else share their ideas and thoughts. Writing in a piece of paper with a pen is just boring and a waste of time and paper. I believe that writing down on a piece of paper seems useless because sometimes you might not even remember what you wrote. Using the blog helps me learn in such a different manner because I do some research so my opinions will be supported correctly. So that others seeing my blogs will clearly understand what I am pointing out. For me, writing these blogs every week feels like I am in my own little bubble where nobody could disturb me. Where I could just write away into an endless story. Technologically, I think it was an outstanding idea because it keeps me on the computer wanting to do more things. It's not just like working on a assignment and all that I would be thinking about is when I will be done with it. Its fantastic, I am glad that we got to post blogs instead of doing writing assignments.

An American Dream

Immigration in the United States in the early 1900's must have been a moment of big emotions. The immigrants had a mix of feelings when they experienced coming to the United States for the first time. Their first feeling would be sadness because they would be leaving their homes back in their country but happiness when coming to experience new opportunities. Many of them sometimes felt a relief when coming into Ellis Island and watching the State of Liberty as their ship went by. Ellis Island was a big thing for the immigrants. It's a beautiful place that is really fancy. They might have even felt like royalty when coming in to the United States. They were very excited and so they dressed very fancy like if they were coming into a new life. Some of them felt anxiety and hunger because the ships were full of many immigrants and the trip to New York was a long way, the food would not last for long in these ships. Many of the immigrants would feel very uncomfortable. With the ships at a full capacity, many of the immigrants would be sick, carry diseases, or even die. They also felt weird and scared because they were submitted into a mental test. They also felt exhausted and lonely with no money to supply their family. The experiences and feelings that the immigrants were very different but also harsh and difficult.

"Songs of the Shirt"

The "Song of the Shirt" evokes an emotional feeling towards the women who worked in textile factories. In it is realistic to what woman dealt with in the 1800's. It describes how these women worked for long hours and eventually become exhausted of the sewing. They lived in poverty because of the wage that they got during those times. The women felt like they were treated like slaves. They would end up working until, they couldn't feel their bodies anymore. They were disrespected by not giving them the amount of money to live on. With reading the lyrics of this song the women were sometimes starving or full of dirt. The word "work" is used to emphasize the long hours of work and the low wages that they got. And not only did the women work but children were not expected to receive an education, so at an early age they began to start working. Some were treated the same way, they worked for long hours, eventually got exhausted, and looked like they were malnutrition. Woman had to endure a lot during this days, from work they sometimes went to take care of family, and it became very tiring. These events happened everywhere around the United States.

Cowboys Portrayed

John Wayne was a popular American icon that was known for his role as a cowboy. Therefore Hollywood gave the public a perfect life of a cowboy, presenting him as a hero, the one who gets the girls, and the most respected person in town. But as Erwin E. Smith began to take pictures that documented the real life of a cowboy. Unfortunately, many people do believe this stories of the Wild West. The realities of the Cowboy life were full of managing cattle, living off land, and physical labor that would have physical and emotional impact on the cowboys. After all, Hollywood blocks out the many realities and impacts that Cowboys in the 1800's went through.

Cowboys had to fulfill into a job because they had to leave their families to hopefully have a better life for themselves in the West. Many times cowboys had to befriend others to be successful in the job. Cowboys would be be in despair if they didn't befriend anybody at all. The spent most of the day working at the ranch, roping the horses, wrangling the cattle, and cooking dinner. They would have to listen to the Boss's instructions and from their begin there day. They would go to the deserts to ride in the range. Afterwords they would rope an outlaw steer, they would sometimes take hours to rope around horses and get them together. Cowboys would also have to train horses as part of their job. It was difficult for the cowboys to calm down the horses, because the horses don't like being touched by strangers. Many of these cowboys took many risks in their daily life. And cowboys began to be seen as an important travel transport because it would help them travel immense distances and it obviously helped out in the ranch. Having to endure the many hot desert days in the pants and long sleeve shirts made the factors that the cowboys faced more challenging then ever. The life of a cowboy was not clean, easy, or comfortable at all. They were subject to disease, lack of education, and there was no clear clean water.

Many of Smith's photograph show the evident difficulty of being a cowboy. That came to be the emotional stress and how it impacted their life. In the movies they exaggerate on how heroic the cowboy is and how unhealthy the condition of a cowboy is. Loneliness is depressing and none of the cowboys wanted to go through but in the many hardships that they faced in the ranch, they began to stress. And so they began to have many issues in their life. It was really not an easy job. Dealing with wounds, Indian attacks, cattle stampedes, and the fear of revenge kicked in as the cowboys became more stressed. Not only did Hollywood portray cowboys differently, the struggles and realities that the cowboys faced everyday were even more challenging.
